Top Players
What?
A new exhibition full of sports and play
Mechelen Toy Museum and Sportimonium are joining forces in the Top Players exhibition to explore the playing field between sport and games. The exhibition highlights the careers and passions of an impressive list of athletes and sports figures, including boxer Victor Schelstraete, fencer Jolien Corteyn, tennis player Dominique Monami, alpine skier Jasper Balcaen, sprinter Cédric Van Branteghem, footballer Piet den Boer, and sports anchors Tess Elst and Maarten Vangramberen.
In addition to their stories, there is plenty of space to play and/or do sports yourself. Test how many times you can jump rope in 1 minute, check how fast your reaction speed is, or transform into a true boxing hero.
The exhibition runs from 4 April to 31 August in the exhibition hall of Mechelen Toy Museum. A visit to the exhibition is included in the museum admission price. We bet this fascinating exhibition will get you moving! Ready? Go!

Museum Piece of the Year
Vote for the wind-up football game in the Museum Piece of the Year competition, chosen by children!
Which exhibit deserves the title of ‘Museum Piece of the Year’, as chosen by children? That’s up to you. And there’s something in it for you too, because every voter stands a chance of winning a relaxing city break for two within the country! The winner will stay overnight at one of Martin’s Hotels’ 12 unique locations, from Bruges to Genval.
Do you know this blow-football game? You try to blow a ball into your opponent’s goal using a small pipe. And that’s guaranteed to be a laugh! Many versions of this game came onto the market in the 1950s and 1960s. This blow-football game from Jumbo (Netherlands) was very popular here. It was also the favourite game of former footballer Piet den Boer and can be seen in the ‘Top Players’ exhibition at the Mechelen Toy Museum.
Voting is open from 16 March until 24 May at 12 noon. On that day, Museumpas will announce the winner.
