Mechelen Toy Museum and Sportimonium are joining forces in the Top Players exhibition to explore the playing field between sport and games. The exhibition highlights the careers and passions of an impressive list of athletes and sports figures, including boxer Victor Schelstraete, fencer Jolien Corteyn, tennis player Dominique Monami, alpine skier Jasper Balcaen, sprinter Cédric Van Branteghem, footballer Piet den Boer, and sports anchors Tess Elst and Maarten Vangramberen.

In addition to their stories, there is plenty of space to play and/or do sports yourself. Test how many times you can jump rope in 1 minute, check how fast your reaction speed is, or transform into a true boxing hero.

The exhibition runs from 4 April to 31 August in the exhibition hall of Mechelen Toy Museum. A visit to the exhibition is included in the museum admission price. We bet this fascinating exhibition will get you moving! Ready? Go! 

Wanted: the top players in everyday life

The exhibition is not yet complete. For the final piece of the exhibition, the museum is looking for the “ordinary” top player. Because whether you are training for the Olympics or playing ball in the woods every Sunday, sport and games connect us all.

The curators are looking for photos of you playing sports or games, in a group or alone. Think of a heated game of petanque, a sweaty CrossFit session, yoga in the park, playing pool at a pub or kayaking together. As long as there is playing or movement, the photo has a chance of earning a place among the big names in the museum.

How can you participate?  

Do you have a nice photo of your favourite sports or games moment? The museums invite you to send in your images. Be sure to mention the activity, the location and the year of the photo, and make sure you have permission from the people in the photo. Send all images to communicatie@speelgoedmuseum.be before 20 February.
