Playing is fun and exuberant, but inside the museum, keep to the set limits. Mechelen Toy Museum is not a climbing or gym.
-14-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult at all times. No dogs or other pets allowed. Cuddly animals are allowed inside 🧸
The museum is very familiar, accessible and approachable. Play and toys is a theme that plays a role in everyone's life. So we do our best to make sure everyone feels welcome in the museum!
Mental age plays no role, everyone is involved in the museum's collection and interactive elements.
Do people in your group use a wheelchair or buggy? The entire museum experience takes place on one floor and there is plenty of room everywhere to turn or turn around and, of course, to play.
A museum experience is not limited to looking at display cases. In the museum, collection pieces are occasionally placed in front of display cases, so you can hold the pieces in your hands and feel the toys for yourself. In Room 2, you can enjoy fun and educational listening clips. In addition, there are numerous play experiences where you can work together.
A field trip brings a lot of new impressions. The museum has a sensory room where you can take a quiet retreat. In this area, we focus on peace and security. You will find this area near level 2 in room 3 (Playful).
Next to the sensory room is a stimulation room. Using a number of soft stimuli, which appeal to different senses. You can also spend time in this room if you are looking for a safe environment.
In the museum, you can use the autism suitcase, a sensory toolkit for people with autism or who are easily overstimulated. The toolkit includes fidget toys, a scent spray, an aggravation toy and headphones. However, there is much more to discover in the kit. Ask at the counter!
During busier periods, start your visit at 10 a.m. to avoid large crowds. The museum café is busiest between 12:00 and 1:30 p.m., and again from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. For a more relaxed experience, enjoy your drink or snack outside these peak hours. On sunny days, the museum is typically quieter.
A nursing table is available in the toilets. Are you still breastfeeding? Just ask at reception where the breastfeeding area is where you can sit quietly. There is also a microwave where you can warm up any milk.
An essential companion, supporting a person with a disability, is admitted free of charge. An accompanying dog is allowed in the museum.
