CreaTIVE & EDUCATIONAL TOYS
Beside
objects for mere pleasure, toys can also be a very good aid for children
to learn things in a cheerful way. Some toy sets can even be an ideal
preparation for a later professional career. These sets were often very
expensive. In the first half of the 20th century a working class man had
to pay about two weeks wage to buy an educational toy for his son or daughter.
In the museum you can find wooden counting-frames, the Electro game of
the fifties, carpenter’s tools for boys, knitting boxes for girls,
… Apart from this, you can also admire some very particular toy
sets, containing everything you need to play postman or train conductor.
Or what do you think of a complete priest set dating from the 1920’s
with an altar, chalice, candlesticks, censers and a garment, all made
for children?
